OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The state Department of Public Safety is starting an e-mail notification system to remind Oklahomans to renew driver's licenses and state-issued identification cards.

DPS special projects manager David Beatty says the cost of mailing notifications is at least $400,000 a year and often people have moved and the notices are returned.

He says people usually keep their e-mail addresses and e-mails will be a more effective and cost-efficient way to remind people to renew their documents

Once a person signs up a renewal notice will be sent to his or her e-mail address 45 days before the license or identification card's expiration date.
