The East Central Bridge over Tar Creek near the NEO A&M campus is in line to perhaps receive state funds to effect repairs or replacement of the structure.
City Engineer Jack Dalrymple recently received permission from the Miami city council to apply for an Oklahoma Department of Transportation grant for bridge repair. The grant, known as a “million-dollar grant” would provide the city with $750,000. To receive the funds the city would have to provide $250,000 to the project, making the million dollar total.
Currently the bridge is posted to 10 tons and is deemed safe for normal vehicular traffic.
City engineers, along with the national bridge analysis firm EST Engineering inspected the bridge recently. Estimations from that tour indicated that repair of the bridge may be as costly as replacement.
Officials expect to know the status of the grant request in approximately six months.
