A female employee was injured Thursday afternoon during an armed robbery at a Miami cafe.
According to Miami Police Detective Todd Chenoweth, a male subject, later identified as a resident of Missouri, walked into the Lil' Cafe on Steve Owens Boulevard shortly after 2 p.m. wielding a hatchet as he demanded money.
“He struck a female employee in the arm with the hatchet,” Chenoweth said. “Then he fled the scene with a small amount of cash.”
The injured employee was taken to Integris Baptist Regional Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries from the attack.
Chenoweth said one of the employees was able to provide authorities with a description of the vehicle the man left the scene in.
“A short time later, authorities apprehended the suspect (on Oklahoma Highway 10 near the turnpike),” Chenoweth said. “We recovered evidence from the vehicle linking the suspect to the robbery.”
Chenoweth said officers also found marijuana in the vehicle. Additionally, authorities learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Independence, Mo.
Authorities expect the suspect to be charged with several felony counts in connection with the incident.
