The Miami Area Chamber of Commerce has implemented a new award for recognition at its annual banquet.
A recipient of the new “Community Volunteer of the Year” award will be selected during the next two weeks and a presentation made during the Jan. 15 banquet at the Miami Civic Center.
The new award will honor a volunteer as the 2008 Community Volunteer of the Year. The aim of the award is to value commitment to the community and recognize the contribution that volunteers make in Ottawa County, according to Miami Area Economic Chamber Director Cindy Morris.
“Anyone involved in an Ottawa County organization may make a written nomination to the Miami Area Chamber by Wednesday,” Morris said. “The selected candidate, their guest and member of the agency that nominated them will be invited to Chamber Annual Banquet.”
The chamber is seeking nominations for an outstanding volunteer that may be involved in one/or more of the following six categories:
• Supporting families
• Working with young people
• Enhancing the environment
• Working with older adults
• Supporting people with disabilities
• Youth volunteering
To make a nomination, send a brief description of the activities the volunteer has been involved in during 2008 and how the person’s service has benefited your organization and the community/area.
Those making nominations may also list any additional organizations that they may be involved with in order to demonstrate the nominee’s dedication and service to the area.
Nominations should be submitted to Miami Area Chamber of Commerce, 111 N. Main in Miami.
The nominations may also be faxed to 540-1260 or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
