Skye Reece, 20, appeared in court today with public defender, attorney Andrew Meloy to face charges of First Degree Murder for the death of Lanceton Hollenbeck. District Court Judge Robert Haney set a preliminary hearing date for June 6 at 10:30 a.m. after asking Meloy and Ottawa County Assistant District Attorney Ben Loring to confer for an open date.
The 17 month old child was in Reece's care on Feb.11 and later died on Feb.12 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after being removed from life support. The child died from what the state medical examiner reported as injuries from blunt head trauma.
Reece had been dating the child's father, Ryan Nowlin, and lived with them in Quapaw. The couple also have a child together.
Nowlin is reported to have been at work when the injuries occurred to his son. Lanceton had been at his father's home for a weekend visitation.
According to an arrest affidavit Reece told Quapaw officers she was home alone with the children and Lanceton had been playing in his bedroom and she heard a loud noise but no crying.
Reece is being held in the Ottawa County Jail.
