Approximately 100 volunteers participated in this year's Hearts & Hammers campaign.
The Hearts & Hammers 2008 campaign turned out to be a beautiful day's event, said chairman Ken Wagener.
Activities volunteers performed at nearly 40 work sites include floor repair, building wheelchair ramps, painting inside and outside, plumbing, fixing electrical problems, a lot of yard work and clean up.
“Hearts & Hammers mission is to provide free home repair and maintenance for homeowners who are physically or financially unable to do this work alone,” Wagener said. “As a movable neighborhood work party, volunteers fulfill these needs.”
Wagener expressed gratitude toward the volunteers.
“Volunteers include youth groups from the United Methodist Church, Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Immanuel Baptist Church, New Life Church of the Nazarene, 4-H, OSU Extension, Boy Scouts Troop 55, Integris Baptist Regional Health Center, Arvest Bank, IBC Bank, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College students and employees, and various individuals.
“In addition to the volunteers, sponsors include United Way, the First Presbyterian Church, Narcissa Baptist Church, Pilot Club of Miami, HK Electric, Sooner Printing, Ace Hardware, the A-Team and various individuals,” Wagener said. “Thanks to them as well.”
