A 30-year-old man jumped into the Neosho River Saturday and ended up in jail, according to police reports.
Authorities were dispatched to Riverview Park where witnesses said a man had jumped into the river.
When officers arrived, they saw the man in the river approximately 300 yards south of the city boat ramp.
Miami rescue personnel attempted to remove Charles Joseph Murphy from the water, but he refused their assistance.
“At one point, he climbed into a boat with an unknown male who was fishing,” Miami Police Officer David Wright said. “He jumped from the boat when he observed officers standing on the bank.”
Wright said the man eventually exited the river and walked into a wooded area near the park.
Murphy was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Ottawa County Jail.
