THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TULSA HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR DELAWARE COUNTY IN NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA, OTTAWA COUNTY IN NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA, and   SOUTHEASTERN CRAIG COUNTY IN NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA UNTIL 1100 PM CDT

AT 453 PM CDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN MOVING INTO WESTERN DELAWARE, SOUTHEAST CRAIG, AND SOUTHERN OTTAWA COUNTIES. ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE OVER THE WARNED AREA THROUGHOUT THE EVENING. AROUND AN INCH OF RAINFALL HAS ALREADY OCCURRED WITH AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 3 INCHES POSSIBLE THROUGH 11 PM.

RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING TO OCCUR. SOME LOCATIONS THAT COULD EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE: JAY, MIAMI, VINITA, AFTON, BERNICE, BERNICE , TE PARK, BIG CABIN, BLUEJACKET, CHLOETA, CLEORA, COMMERCE, FAIRLAND, GROVE, HONEY CREEK STATE PARK, KANSAS, KETCHUM, LEACH, NARCISSA, OAKS, PICHER, QUAPAW, TWIN OAKS, WELCH, WHITE OAK, AND WYANDOTTE.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD TO UNKNOWN DEPTHS. IT ONLY TAKES TWO FEET OF RUSHING WATER TO CARRY AWAY MOST SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES AND PICKUPS. TAKE A DIFFERENT ROUTE TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION OR WAIT UNTIL THE WATER RECEDES. REMEMBER MOST FLOOD RELATED DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.

LOW WATER CROSSINGS IN HILLY TERRAIN ARE ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS IN HEAVY RAIN. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES. IT ONLY TAKES A FEW INCHES OF SWIFTLY FLOWING WATER TO CARRY VEHICLES AWAY.
