Craig County authorities are investigating the death of a 41-year-old Centralia man found in his burned home Thursday morning.

Claudie Allison was discovered among the charred rubble that remained of his 1500-square-foot wood-frame home on S. 4350 Road around 7:30 a.m., Thursday.

“A neighbor passing by the house noticed the fire and called Mr. Allison’s brother-in-law,” said Craig County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Hendrickson. “By then, the house was almost gone. It’s not surprising the fire wasn’t noticed sooner as thick as the fog was Thursday.”

Hendrickson said Allison’s wife was at work at the time of the fire and no one else was in the home.

Bluejacket firefighters responded to the scene but the home was already destroyed.

“We don’t know, at this point, what caused the fire or what the cause of death is,” said Hendrickson. “We are waiting for the autopsy report from the medical examiner’s office to determine what caused Mr. Allison’s death.”

Hendrickson said the family did not have insurance.
