Members of the National Junior High School Honor Society at Will Rogers Middle School in Miami spent several afternoons recently counting pennies.
The pennies were collected at monthly meetings of the Philanthropic Educators Organization (P.E.O.), FO chapter.
“We’ve been collecting the pennies at every meeting for some time now,” said Ginny Stinson, president of the group. “We filled our bucket and the Teresa Harlan, president of the honor society, said that the members would graciously count them for us.”
The P.E.O. assists women with scholarships for post-secondary education.
It also owns Cottey College in Neosho, Mo.
The pennies amounted to $84 which will be used to help finance the P.E.O.’s scholarship projects in Oklahoma.
“Who knows, one day we might help finance the further education of the students who counted our pennies,” Stinson said.
