Ottawa County producers have been approved to implement four levels of emergency conservation practices, to include removing debris from farmland, shaping, releveling, or similar measures, restoring permanent fences, and restoring structures and other installations.
The practices will be available to eligible producers due to the recent flooding, according to the local Farm Service Agency.
Although the practices are approved for excessive moisture and flooding, one of the ineligible land criteria is land subject to frequent damage or particularly susceptible to severe damage.
Soil map unit symbols with a description of “occasionally flooded” and “frequently flooded” will not be eligible for the flood assistance.
Those who do not know if their farmland shows a map symbol for flooding may contact the Farm Service Agency for assistance.
Sign-ups for the ECP Program will be be offered for 30 days beginning Wednesday.
