Ottawa County deputies ,with cooperation from the Miami Police Department, put an end to a Truck Route drug operation Monday evening.
According to Sheriff Terry Durborow, deputies recovered methamphetamine, marijuana, a police scanner, a loaded 16-gauge shotgun and a military-style, bullet-resistant vest after serving a search warrant at 327 D NW.
Westley Allan Gabelt, 22, was arrested shortly after 8:30 p.m. on numerous drug- and weapons-related charges.
“The investigation into this residence began after information was received indicating that the resident was selling drugs,” Durborow said. “This residence is located approximately 1,520 feet from Roosevelt Elementary School.”
Durborow said deputies with the sheriff's office and officers with the Miami Police Department investigated Gabelt's residence for approximately one month, gathering information that led to the issuance of a search warrant.
On Jan. 29, Gabelt was charged with several drug- and weapons-related felonies. He appeared in court on May 4 for a preliminary hearing on those charges.
Gabelt is currently incarcerated at the Ottawa County Jail on a total bond of $27,000.
