A Miami woman is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for allegedly failing to provide protection for her child.
Misti Renee Spence, 27, was taken into custody on Oct. 18 after authorities cited her for speeding and crossing the centerline - with a 5-year-old child in the front passanger seat.
According to Ottawa County Deputy Danny Cook, Spence could not complete a field sobriety test and appeared to be intoxicated.
“I asked Mrs. Spence if she had been drinking and she replied that she had been drinking whiskey all day,” Cook wrote in his report.
A test of Spence's breath alcohol content resulted in a .20 reading, according to Cook.
Spence's 5-year-old child was in the front passenger's seat crying, according to Cook.
Spence has been charged with felony child abuse and driving under the influence. She faces up to life in prison and more than $6,000 in fines.
