Thursday the American Red Cross began distributing cleanup kits to residents who will soon be returning to their flood-damaged property.
Anyone affected by the flood may pick up a cleanup kit at the First Christian Church at 2424 North Main St. in Miami.
“The kit contains a mop, broom, squeegee, sponge, bucket, disinfectant and other cleaning supplies,” Red Cross representative Nellie Kelly said. “Residents can stop by First Christian for a cleanup kit and snacks or meals.”
The kit also includes a booklet with information about returning to and cleaning up homes in flooded areas.
That First Christian Church is also serving as a temporary shelter for residents who are unable to return to their homes. Wednesday, 42 spent the night there.
On Thursday, Kelly said 250 meals were prepared for breakfast and another 250 were being prepared for lunch.
“Whether they need to stay at the shelter overnight or not, residents are encouraged to come to the church for meals, snacks and cold drinks,” Kelly said.
