The Ottawa County District Attorneys office has been making some location changes in the past couple of weeks to make room for a new attorney.
Assistant District Attorney Ben Loring is now working from an office on the first floor of the courthouse in the former child support office.
“We just didn't have enough room upstairs,” Wyant said. “We had to make some changes to make room for our new attorney.”
Jennifer Ellis, a 2001 graduate of Miami High School, joined the district attorneys office after taking her bar exam in July.
Ellis attended NEO A&M during her junior and senior years of high school then completed her bachelor's degree in criminology at the University of Oklahoma.
While at OU she also studied philosophy, religion and ethics.
Upon graduation from OU in 2004, Ellis began law school at the University of Oklahoma College of Law, graduating in May.
“I spent the summer studying the bar exam,” Ellis said. “Then took it in July.”
Wyant said he is excited to have Ellis join the Ottawa County District Attorneys Office.
“I feel she will be a real asset to our department,” Wyant said.
“I'm fortunate to have been given the opportunity to do the job that I love in the town that I love,” Ellis said. “Miami has always been my home and I hope to contribute in any way I can to make this city the best it can possibly be.”
Ellis said she also feels fortunate to work for Wyant, who she regards as an “incredible district attorney.”
“I have the utmost respect for him and I am very grateful for the opportunity to begin my legal career in the Ottawa County DA's office,” Ellis said.
