AFTON - Ground will be broken today on a 49-acre industrial park located about two-miles east of the Afton business district and within a stone's throw of the Will Rogers Turnpike.
“It's just a great location, close to the turnpike and a rail line,” said Russell Earls, chairman of the Ottawa County Commission. The industrial park is located in the Afton city limits and is situated in Earl's district.
The groundbreaking is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
The property was recently purchased for approximately $90,000 by the City of Afton.
“We've tried for three years to purchase a property,” said Marjorie Hopkins, Afton city clerk. “We've had some deals fall through, but we finally got a deal done.”
Street construction and lighting installation will begin within a week, according to Marjorie Hopkins, Afton city clerk.
The city has previously extended water and sewer lines to the site. The cost of purchasing the land and construction costs have all been paid for with a Community Development Block Grant, Hopkins said.
