A Miami woman was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol with her 5-year-old child in the vehicle.
Misti Renee Spence 28, received a one-year deferred sentence for child abuse and a two-year deferred sentence for aggravated driving under the influence.
The sentence stemmed from an arrest on Oct. 18, 2007.
According to authorities, Spence was pulled over for speeding and crossing the centerline.
Ottawa County Deputy Danny Cook said Spence could not complete a field sobriety test and appeared to be intoxicated.
“I asked Mrs. Spence if she had been drinking and she replied that she had been drinking whiskey all day,” Cook wrote in his report.
A test of Spence's breath alcohol content resulted in a .20 reading, according to Cook.
Spence's 5-year-old child was in the front passenger's seat crying, according to Cook.
In addition to incarceration, Spence was ordered to perform 480 hours of community service - all of which was suspended except 30 hours. She will be required to complete drug and alcohol classes and pay fines and costs associated with her conviction.
Spence will also be required to equip her vehicle with an ignition interlock device.
