The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued notice of a public meeting to be held Aug. 28 at the Picher-Cardin High School commons area.

The 6 p.m. meeting will provide the public with an opportunity to comment on the agency's proposed plan for remediation of chat piles, mine and mill waste, smelter waste and flotation ponds within the Tar Creek Superfund site.

Area residents are advised that issues relative to the current buyout of Picher, Cardin and Hockerville communities will not be addressed. Those matters are to be directed to the Lead-Impacted Communities Relocation Assistance Trust.
