GROVE - At least one councilman said he feels there is no need to enact an ordinance regarding flammable objects when one already exists.
During last week's city council meeting, police chief Ivan Devitt proposed an ordinance that would have prevented anyone from lighting a flammable object within 50 feet of an accident.
Councilman Terry Ryan made the motion to accept the ordinance but it was extinguished for lack of a second.
On Friday, Councilman Larry Parham said his research indicated that the city already has an ordinance in place to deal with those situations titled “Hazardous Materials and Waste.”
The ordinance provides for up to 30 days in jail and a $100 fine, plus payment for the costs of cleanup and damages, to the person who places or causes to be released any substance that present potential hazard to human health and safety.
