DALLAS - American Consolidated Media LLC of Dallas, Texas, has purchased the publishing assets of Kimberling City Publishing Company Inc. located in Columbus, Kan., and Baxter Springs, Kan.
The purchase price for the transaction was not disclosed.
American Consolidated Media made the purchase through Miami Newspapers Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary and publisher of newspapers in Picher, Miami, Grove and Jay.
Kimberling City Publishing Company Inc. is owned and operated by Darrell Sumner of Aurora, Mo., along with his two sons, Darren Sumner and Derek Sumner, and his wife Patty Sumner.
The acquisition includes the Columbus Daily Advocate, a daily newspaper serving the community of Columbus and surrounding Cherokee County, Kan.; The Baxter Springs News, a weekly newspaper serving the community of Baxter Springs, and the Border Star Shopping Guide, a weekly TMC product serving Cherokee County.
The Columbus Daily Advocate was first published in 1874 and The Baxter Springs News was first published in 1869.
In conjunction with this transaction, Larry Hiatt was named publisher of both the Columbus Daily Advocate and The Baxter Springs News. Hiatt is a longtime resident of Columbus and has had a distinguished career in newspaper publishing including as a previous owner of The Baxter Springs News.
He currently serves as publisher of The Baxter Springs News for Kimberling City Publishing Company Inc.
