In an effort to increase awareness of issues regarding recycling and generate a local interest in “greener” living, the News-Record will now offer recycling tips to its readers.
Look for the “Did You Know? icon, pictured at right, in Wednesday editions of the News-Record.
The icon will be paired with facts and hints about recyclable items and strategies for implementing greener habits.
Information is provided through a partnership City of Miami's new recycling effort - a project it has undertaken with the support of the Modoc Tribe.
FACT: Americans buy an estimated 28 billion plastic water bottles every year. Nearly eight out of 10 will end up in a landfill.
HINT: Buy several reusable plastic water jugs and keep them filled up in the fridge. Grab them and go! Bring them home to wash and refill.
The Miami recycling center accepts No.1 and No. 2 plastics.
Look inside the recycling triangle on the bottom plastic bottles to identify the plastic type.
Remove and discard lids before placing bottles in a recycling receptacle.
