An Ottawa County fugitive was apprehended earlier this week in Joplin.
James J. Livingston, 26, was wanted on two Ottawa County warrants for failure to pay restitution and fines that resulted from a 2005 conviction.
Cpl. Chuck Niess, of the Joplin Police Department, said he spotted two men walking away from a vehicle in the 1500 block of Valley Street at 1:35 a.m., Sunday. He approached the men, who he said appeared suspicious in nature, and discovered that Livingston was in possession of a gun and bags of cocaine.
Livingston was taken into custody where he is awaiting extradition by Ottawa County authorities. The man accompanying Livingston was released without charges.
Missouri court records indicate that Livingston has a history of drug and alcohol related arrests.
He was sentenced to four years in prison on Oct. 19, 2005, after pleading guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle.
He was released from custody on Jan. 18, 2007, and failed to make regular payments as ordered in the conditions of his release, according to court records.
