GROVE - Arnold Williams was named the 2007 Grove Christmas Parade Grand Marshal.
The Parade will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday. This year's theme is “The Oklahoma Centennial; Our Past, Present and Future.”
Arnold has been a Grove resident since 1975 moving here from Kansas City, Mo. and started the first lawn service in Grove. He became involved in the Senior Citizens lunch program working in the kitchen but was soon appointed as manager of the Van Program which is now known as Pelivan.
He became involved with the Northeast Oklahoma Action Committee assisting the elderly and the handicapped with safety issues.
Arnold has dedicated most of his adult life to serving his community. Included among his many accomplishments is receiving the AARP National Community Service Award of which only four have been presented in the United States. He is a member of the Moose Lodge 2033 and Legion of the Moose 147 in which he held office for two years. In 1993 the Moose Lodge honored him with the Humanitarian of the Year Award and two Top Hat Awards for community service and named him Moose Legionnaire of the Year in 1999.
As co-founder of the Grove Veterans Ritual Team and Commander of the team for 13 years, Arnold has assisted with funeral services for 450 veterans and clocked over 12.000 member miles in 2006 alone. He was named the V. F.W's Man of the Year in 1989.
Nominated by the Grove Elk's Lodge for his outstanding community service, Arnold has been officially accepted as an honoree on Grove's Wall of Honor. A Tribute Dinner will be held at the Elk's Lodge on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 4-7 p.m. The cost to attend is $6, with tickets available at the Chamber, Elk's Lodge and City Hall.
