A local teenager died Sunday after his vehicle plunged onto Interstate 44 from an overpass south of Miami, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Nathanial Thomas Wright, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene after his car struck a bridge abutment on an Ottawa County road and ran off an overpass over the Will Rogers Turnpike, according to a report filed by trooper Ben Bertram.

Wright's 1995 Chevrolet truck fell more than 18 feet to the interstate, forcing a near three-hour halt of traffic.

Bertram wrote in his report that Wright was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected.
