A Wyandotte volunteer firefighter and rescue diver has been hired to head emergency operations at the county level.
Ottawa County commissioners approved the hiring of Frank Geasland as they met on Monday.
Geasland will be paid $3,000 per month plus benefits and will assume his duties on Nov. 20, according to county officials.
In other business the county discussed the logistics of a planned county auction of courthouse surplus items and hardware as the county prepares to move into the new courthouse early in 2008.
Joe Clapp, one of several local auctioneers contacted for an opportunity to submit a quote on the auctioneering opportunity, discussed the process with the commission and planned a walk-through of the four-story building.
The commission also discussed the possibility of creating a county seal and discussed options for the design, to include the implementation of icons indicative of Ottawa County. That topic has been placed back on the agenda for Monday.
