Ottawa County officials, by signature, declared their intent to seek $3 million in hazard mitigation funds to remove residents from flood-prone properties.

If approved for the grant funding - which will be applied for through the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management - will provide 75 percent of a $4 million project to buyout residents living in the Fountain East subdivision.

The notice indicates tht the county has a $1 million, or 25 percent, obligation - which the county said it is able to meet.

Earlier this year, commissioners announced that they would seek assistance from the Grand River Dam Authority to provide assistance in obtaining matching funds for mitigation.

The mitigation project includes the purchase, demolition and removal of approximately 47 repetitive loss properties.
