SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Authorities say a southern Missouri man suffered a heart attack when a storm lifted him and his wife from their house and threw them from the building.
Dallas County emergency management director Larry Highfill said the couple in their 70s lived in the small town of Charity. He did not release their names.
He says their house was demolished in a storm that swept through the county shortly after 8 a.m. Friday, destroying 50 homes, injuring several people, and downing power lines and trees.
Highfill said the man died on the way to a Springfield hospital. His wife is being treated for injuries. Highfill did not know her condition.
Strong storms in southern Missouri were blamed for widespread damage, including the collapse of a large section of a TV tower in Joplin.
