Vernon C. Wilson of Miami, Okla. passed from this life on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Mo. He was 86.
Vernon was born September 25, 1932 in Commerce, Okla. to Wayne and Alta (McBrien) Wilson. When he was four years old he went to live with his uncle and aunt, Ercie and Teena Wilson. He and his brother, Holly, were raised by them on a farm west of Commerce in the North Fairview School District. He attended North Fairview Grade School then Commerce High School… and N.E.O. A.&M. College. He served in the United States Army for two years and then attended Miami Business College.
Vernon worked for Consolidated Supply in Picher for 26 years and then worked at Commerce Middle School for 18 years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Commerce and attended First Christian Church in Miami.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, his Uncle Ercie and Aunt Teena, two brothers, Gail and Holly Wilson, three sisters, Rose Marie Weeden, Amaryllis Dearinger and Shirley McHenry and a granddaughter, Ashton Stafford.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shelvia (McCoy) Wilson of the home, one son, Tim Wilson and his wife Tina of Miami, Okla., two daughters, Teresa Smith and Cheryl Stafford both of Miami, Okla., seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at First Christian Church in Miami, Okla. with Pastor Leon Weece officiating. Interment will follow in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami with Devin Wilson, Matt Crockett, Kurt Moudy, Dietin Rodriguez, Diego Rodriguez and Steve Williams serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, Okla. Services have been placed in the care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, Okla.
