Ruth Lee (Carrell) Tilden was the last survivor of the Carrell Ten. She was the ninth of ten children born to Myrtle and Newton Carrell in Hughes County, Okla. Ruth’s family were migrant farmworkers in her early years. After high school, she attended Draughon’s Business College in OKC and was recruited into the USN Waves in Washington DC, engaged in the war effort. There she met her husband, James B. Tilden, with whom she traveled the world and raised her family.
Ruth will be remembered as a dedicated wife and mother, an active supporter of the Southern Baptist Church, an artist and a free thinking intelligent, funny and positive woman. She will be sorely missed on earth, and joyously celebrated in eternal life.
She followed her husband, James Bruce Tilden, to be with the angels. Survivors include her sons, Robert Nelson and wife Carolyn, and David Glenn Tilden and wife Lynette; and grandsons, Riley James and Corwin James Tilden.
Services were held Saturday, September 1, 2 p.m. at Council Road Baptist Church Chapel with interment in Spring Creek Cemetery. To share a memory or condolence, visit www.mercer-adams.com
