Sign-ups open for the 2018 STYXZ rhythm team Aug. 26-27 for youth ages 10 and up at the First United Methodist Church in Miami.

MIAMI – Sign-ups for the STYXZ youth rhythm team will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 200 B St. NW in Miami, Sunday, Aug. 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 27 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

The STYXZ rhythm team is a group of boys and girls ages 10 and up who perform choreographed routines to a variety of pre-recorded music.

The team frequently uses dowel rods, puppets, streamers, sign language and other modes to interpret various forms of music. Performances are scheduled for churches, schools, rest homes service organizations and special parties.

All youth are invited to join the team free of charge at any time during the school year. Home-schooled students and those from surrounding communities are also welcome. Practice takes place every Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Church vans provide free transportation from Miami schools to the church for the two hour weekly sessions. A free prepared snack is also provided. Parents will need to pick up their children at 5:30 p.m.
