Freddy Lee Gebhart of Miami, Okla. passed from this life on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Mo. He was 88.
Freddy was born March 29, 1930 at Eucha, Okla. to Delbert and Cressie (Vanderpool) Gebhart. He graduated from Seligman, Mo. High School and served in the United States Army during Korea. On August 4, 1951 he married Dorothy Standefer. He had lived in Miami since 1954, moving from Neosho, Mo.
Freddy worked for Safeway Stores, Inc. in Miami for 31 years where he was a manager. He then worked as a toll booth attendant for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority for eight years and later was a greeter at Miami Wal-Mart for 15 years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Miami and was past president of Miami Squares Square Dancing Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, John Howard Gebhart, Ralph Gebhart and L.V. Gebhart.
Freddy is survived by his wife Dorothy Gebhart of the home, two sons, Gary Gebhart of Bentonville, Ark., Max Gebhart of Miami, Okla., one daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Oexman and her husband Jim of Miami, Okla. and one grandson, Adam Oexman of Lawrence, Kan.
Services will be Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Miami with Pastor Jared Joslin and Pastor Brian Brubaker officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin, Mo. with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 147 Funeral Detail. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, Okla.
