Donnie Wayne Rodgers of Quapaw, Okla., passed from this life on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Mo. He was 68.
Donnie was born March 31, 1949 at Tucson, Ariz. to Edward and Wanda (Farrington) Rodgers. He had lived in the Miami and Quapaw area most of his life. He was a member of the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma.
He worked in coal mines in Kansas and worked in maintenance for motels.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ed Rodgers… and John Rodgers and two sisters, Kathy Bonham and Beverly Rodgers.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Aletha Rodgers of the home, a step-son, Matt Bell of Ardmore, Okla., two sisters, Carolyn Rodgers and Shirley Payton and her husband Tom all of Miami, Okla., a sister-in-law, Karen Rodgers of Quapaw, Okla., seven step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the Quapaw Tribal Building east of Quapaw, Okla. with Rev. Geoff Buffalo officiating. Interment will follow in Quapaw Tribal Cemetery with Jeremy Olsen conducting Native American rites. Tom Payton, Billie Mills, Matt Bell, David Waters, Kimmie Edens, Will Rodgers and Wesley Rodgers will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnathan Tinsley, Eddie Rodgers and Johnny Rodgers. Donnie will lie in state at the Quapaw Tribal Building. Services have been placed in the care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, Okla.
