Golden Mesa Casino, which is expected to employ roughly 150 individuals, is slated to open in 2019.

GUYMON – The Shawnee Tribe, in partnership with Global Gaming Solutions, broke ground May 31 on the Golden Mesa Casino, a 42,000-square-foot, high-quality casino entertainment center, located on 107 acres southwest of Guymon. Shawnee Chief Ron Sparkman and Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby spoke at the groundbreaking, expressing their support of the center.

“Today is a great day for the Panhandle community and the Shawnee Tribe,” Chief Sparkman said. “We are thankful for the support we’ve received from the Guymon community and the Chickasaw Nation in bringing this economic opportunity to fruition. We look forward to working in tandem with community leaders and residents to build a better, stronger Panhandle.”

Named to honor the natural beauty of the region, the casino entertainment center will be the first of its kind built in the Oklahoma Panhandle.

“We look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with Chief Sparkman and the Shawnee Tribe as well as the leadership of the City of Guymon and Texas County,” Gov. Anoatubby said. “We believe this project will help enhance tourism, foster economic development and create additional employment opportunities which will benefit the City of Guymon, the Shawnee tribe, and the Chickasaw Nation. This type of project helps demonstrate that pursuing our mission of enhancing the overall quality of life of the Chickasaw people has the welcomed ripple effect of enhancing the quality of life of our friends and neighbors in the larger community.”

Golden Mesa Casino, which is expected to employ roughly 150 individuals, is slated to open in 2019.

“Diversifying our economy with this entertainment center is a prudent and forward-thinking business decision that will benefit Guymon and surrounding areas,” Shawnee Development LLC Chairman Greg Pitcher said. “Guymon is accessible to Kansas, Colorado, Texas and New Mexico. Architects have designed the casino entertainment center to accommodate future expansion because it is our belief that Golden Mesa will become a destination location and economic engine for the area for years to come.”

The Shawnee Tribe is a federally recognized Native American tribe comprised of 2,800 members throughout the United States, primarily in Oklahoma. On March 28, 2018, the deed was signed, placing the land in trust and allowing the tribe to pursue economic development opportunities in the region.

“Working hand-in-hand with the Shawnee Tribe, Global Gaming Solutions, and the hard-working citizens of the Oklahoma panhandle, we now embark on the operations and management of an enterprise we believe will deliver economic diversification and enhanced tourism opportunities to this region,” said Chickasaw Nation Secretary of Commerce Bill Lance. “We expect to see Golden Mesa Casino bring visitors from a five-state region – Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas and, of course, Oklahoma. These visitors will spend their dollars in the local economy, bringing real benefits – creating jobs, spinning off other businesses, generating tax revenues, not to mention the excitement created with this new entertainment venue.”

Construction will be scalable for future phases, which could include a total of 500 additional games, a hotel with meeting space, an RV park and possibly an entertainment venue.
