QUAPAW – Candidacies have been declared for the upcoming Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma's Annual Elections.

The top tribal leadership position of Chairman has two candidates vying for the seat, as well as two candidates each running for Secretary/Treasurer and Business Committee Member seats.

Incumbent Chairman John Berrey is running for reelection, with Rob Weaver running in opposition for the seat.

Incumbent Secretary/Treasurer Tamara Smiley-Reeves is running for reelection, with Solomon Jones running in opposition for the seat.

Incumbent Business Committee Member Ranny McWatters is running for reelection, with Lloyd Buffalo running in opposition for the seat.

Elections are set for July 28 at the Quapaw Tribal Complex in Quapaw with the polling place open from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. on voting day.

All registered voters who have met the voting eligibility requirements specified by the Tribal election ordinance will be eligible to vote. A valid registration card and a picture ID must be in each registered voter’s possession in order to obtain a ballot.

At the April 21, meeting of the Quapaw Tribe Business Committee, the minutes reflect Hana Matthews reported there are 5,077 total Quapaw Tribal members and there are 1,189 registered voters.
