Roy W. “Poncho” Shortt, a sixty-four year old former Fairland resident passed away at his home in Bentonville, Ark. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. He was born on September 30, 1953 in Ava, Mo. to Owen and Elna (Haynes) Shortt. Poncho graduated from Ava High School with the Class of 1971 and then graduated with a Bachelor’s in Ag Science at the School of the Ozarks. He worked as a plant manager for Thermo Fisher Scientific for over thirty years in Miami. Mr. Shortt enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing and planting his garden. More than anything he enjoyed watching his kids play sports. His father Owen Shortt preceded him in passing.
He leaves to carry on his legacy his wife Brenda (Thomas) Shortt of the home, his children Dori Branham and her husband Clint of Adair, Kati Miller and her husband Casey of Nichols Hills, Owen Shortt and his wife Kayla of Bentonville, his grandchildren Atleigh Branham, Elyssa Branham, Regan Miller, J.T. Shortt and Jolie Shortt, also surviving are his brother and sister Norma Barnes and her husband Clayton of Springfield, Mo., Loy Shortt and his wife Ruth Ann of Lebanon, Mo., his brother in laws Duane Thomas of Bentonville, Choo Thomas of Grove and Colleen Thomas of Vinita.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland with Mr. Tommy Williams officiating. Private interment will follow at Fairland Cemetery under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. Those donations can be made in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 695, Fairland, OK 74343.
