Elva Irene Hoos of Miami, Okla. passed from this life Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Quail Creek Skilled Nursing in Springfield, Mo. She was 89.

Elva was born March 12, 1929 in Eufaula, Okla. to Richard and Dora Elizabeth (Sizemore) Smith.  She had lived in Miami since 1952 moving from Checotah, Okla. She had worked at Borge – Warner and Winart Pottery in Miami. Elva was a member of the First Baptist Church in Miami. 

Elva is preceded in death by her son Dr. Gary L. Hoos, her parents, two brothers Richard Smith and Owen Smith, two sisters Mary Lou Smith and Pauline Mulhollen and one great grandchild.

Elva married Eugie Hoos February 11, 1950 and he survives of the home. Additional survivors include her daughter – in- law,  Julie Shipley – Hoos of Springfield, Mo., her sister Margaret (Liz) Johnson of Bartlesville, Okla., three grandchildren Trevor Shipley and wife Stacy, Ryanne Hoos and Mallory Hoos and husband Garry Hancock and 3 great grandchildren. 

Funeral Services will be Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Miami, Okla. Rev. Rick Longcrier will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami.  Services have been placed in the care of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, Okla.
