Opportunities to donate blood through the Red Cross begin this week in Ottawa County, with additional dates through early April in Craig and Delaware counties.
MIAMI – The American Red Cross is again issuing a call for blood donors to help fill gaps in their blood supply following severe winter storms.
The organization reports that more than 270 blood drives were canceled in the first two weeks of March due to severe winter weather in some areas of the country during that period.
All blood types are needed and a blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Donors 17 years of age (16 with written parental consent), must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. Persons 18 years of age and older also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
To make an appointment and to learn more about donation requirements download the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
