Ronald Wayne Clapp, a 70 year old lifetime Ottawa County resident passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Mr. Clapp was born on June 27, 1940 in Miami to Champ “Clark” and Mildred Marie (Roberts) Clapp. On September 30, 1961 Ron married the love of his life, Joelene Cox at Ottawa Indian Baptist Church. He graduated high school from Wyandotte High School, and then went to NEO A&M College for his Associates, Northeastern State University in Tahlequah for his Bachelors and then Pitt State for his Masters Degree. He spent his first two years of teaching and coaching in Delia, Kan. He then returned to Wyandotte High School for twenty-one years to teach and coach there. He then took a position with NEO A&M as an Industrial Arts Teacher; he worked there until his retirement. His family farmed and raised cattle; he enjoyed cars, tractors, antiques and working. He was known to be a master of dis-assembly. Ron was preceded in passing by his parents, Clark and Mildred Clapp.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years Joelene Clapp of the home, his children Brian Clapp and his wife DeeDee of Miami, Mike Clapp and his wife Julie of Miami and Amy Tynon and her husband Jake also of Miami. His brothers Dale Clapp and his wife Carol of Miami, Joe Clapp and his wife Sharon of Fairland and Jim Clapp and his wife LaWayne of Miami, his grandchildren Brandon Clapp and his wife Kerri, Bradley Clapp and his wife Shay, Brant Clapp and his wife Jacque, Holly Morgan and her husband Joe, Jada Hathcock, Lundin Hathcock, Casey Jo Clapp, Travis Clapp, Deegan Jones, Avinee Jones and Jackson Tynon, his great grandchildren Chloe Clapp, Carley Clapp, Alline Clapp, Champ Clapp, Charlie Clapp, Oakley Wright, Reece Clapp, Karsten Morgan and Sadie Tanner, along with his many nieces, Nephews, friends and other relatives.
Visitation will be Friday, January 19, 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Celebration of Life Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Miami First Assembly of God with Mr. Brandon Clapp and Reverend Kenny Ferris officiating. Interment will follow at the Ottawa Indian Cemetery under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Casketbearers will be Ron White, Larry Glenn, Larry Davis, Joe Lippe, Chris Gwartney, Joe Mathis, TC Compton and Steve Lamphear.
Honorary Casketbearer will be Donnie Horner.
The family has ask that memorial Contributions be made to the Wyandotte Alumni Association.
