NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA – Six Health Departments in northeast Oklahoma recently held a drive to gather products and supplies for Blue Star Moms of Mayes County. Employees from Adair, Cherokee, Craig, Delaware, Ottawa and Mayes counties purchased and donated products that will be sent to military personnel currently serving overseas.

Pam Buffington, president for Blue Star Moms of Mayes County, identified Blue Star Moms as family members who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves, or children who are veterans. Care packages containing goods and personal items are sent monthly to military personnel serving overseas.

Many Health Department personnel have served in the military or have relatives currently serving.

“Veterans Day is a great day to remember the men and women who have served and are currently serving in our armed forces,” said Maria Alexander, Regional Health Director and retired Master Sergeant with the US Army. “I am extremely proud of the efforts of the employees of these counties. Their generosity will be appreciated from those who will receive these items.”
