AFTON – The staff members at Northeast Tech’s Afton Campus are busily preparing to host a community event in mid-October. Known as “TechKnow,” this on-campus event is intended to help patrons of all ages get to know their local tech center.
“The purpose of this event is to show potential students what programs Northeast Tech has to offer,” said Afton Campus Director Dr. Curtis Shoemaker. “Our hope is that students will be excited about what they experience in a program and start planning their career path.”
Attendees at TechKnow can expect to see projects that students are currently involved in, and they will also be able to meet instructors. Northeast Tech serves a wide audience, and patrons of all ages are welcome to attend. The event targets current Northeast Tech students and their families, as well as those who are potential future students.
“By participating in this event students will be equipped to make informed decisions about their education,” Shoemaker said. “They will have the opportunity to hear from instructors about potential jobs, earnings, and college opportunities.”
But teenagers aren’t the only ones who should be thinking about their future.
“Adults can benefit from this event by learning what opportunities we offer in adult education in addition to the full-time classes,” Shoemaker said. “Guests are encouraged to ask questions and get the information they need to make informed decisions about their future.”
Participants will enjoy refreshments, meet instructors and tour the facilities, including the three program areas which have been remodeled in recent years: cosmetology, culinary arts and diesel. Door prizes will also be part of the evening’s activities. The event is free, and no RSVP is necessary.
“Upon arrival, attendees should park in the visitor parking and enter the Administration Building to check-in and sign up for door prizes,” said Shoemaker. “We have a large campus with multiple programs, so there will be tour guides available in the lobby.”
TechKnow will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17. Northeast Tech’s Afton campus is located at 19901 S. Highway 69 just west of the turnpike.
