James Leroy Wallace, 79, of Vinita, Okla., passed away Sunday morning, October 8, 2017 at his home, after a long illness, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 26, 1938 in Kingfisher, Okla. to Harold E. Wallace and Hazel E. (Matti) Wallace.
James became a Christian in 1951. On April 15, 1961 he married Frances Bullard in a ceremony at the Welch Baptist Church. James earned a Bachelor’s Degree and worked as a farmer, rancher, school teacher, and service station owner/operator. He was a member of the Cowboy Junction Church in Vinita as well as a faithful member of Gideon’s International in Vinita.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister and brother in law, Thelma and Jess Walker; another sister, Ida Mae Long; a brother in law, Rocky Bullard; a niece, Linda Neill; and two nephews, Eddy Walker and Robbie Steele.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances Wallace; his children, Roxanne Gerrior and husband Jim, and DeWayne Wallace and wife Kellie; a sister, Edith Cox and husband Roy; a brother, Paul Wallace and wife Judy; brother in law, Leon Long; grandchildren, Blake Wallace and his wife Nikki, Elizabeth Gerrior, Kelsey Wallace, Emily Gerrior, Jonathan Gerrior, and Erin Gerrior; great grandsons, Creed, Ridge, and Sutton Wallace; a special sister in law, Terri Bullard and her daughters, Amanda Bullard, and Samantha and Josh Moore and her granddaughters, Drew Goade and Wren Moore; brother in laws; Don Bullard and wife Carol, Tom Bullard and wife Judy, and Randy Bullard; two sister in laws, Ann Walker and Leona White; along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Welch Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Services will be Wednesday, October 11, at 10:30 a.m. at Cowboy Junction Church in Vinita. Pastor Blake Wallace will officiate. Burial will follow in the Welch Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Greg Highsmith, Orland Aldridge, Gary Steele, Ralph Kinsley, Darry Hawkins, Larry Sutton, Jonathan Gerrior. Honorary Casket bearers will be Bluejacket class of 1956, Vinita Gideon Camp, Ron Neill, Mike Fitzpatrick, and Larry Layton.
The casket will be open for visitation and prior to the service. The casket will then be closed and not reopened.
