Norma Loree (Hood) Greer, a lifelong resident of Welch, Okla., passed away late Friday evening, September 22, 2017, at Windridge Nursing and Rehab in Miami, with her family at her side. She was 85.
Norma was born January 26, 1932 in rural Welch to Cecil Howard Hood and Jane Deleplane Wilson. She was a graduate of Welch High School. On December 31, 1949, she married Norris Lee Greer in a ceremony at the Welch Christian Church. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2009, after 59 years of marriage.
She was a hardworking woman. She worked tirelessly on the family farm. She also worked outside the home for many years, holding various other jobs at the Welch State Bank, Welch Public Schools, and Maxson’s Sale Barn.
She was member of the Welch Christian Church. She loved flea markets, auctions, and travelling. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norris Lee; one son, Roger Greer; and one brother, George Hood.
She is survived by three sons, Daryle Greer and wife Debbie of Shattuck, Okla., John and wife Diane of Welch, and David and wife Kathy, also of Welch; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a special cousin, Jim Hood; one niece; and one great nephew.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Thomas Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Walker Cemetery, west of Welch. Minister David Scott will officiate. D.J. McCarter will represent the Cherokee Nation.
