MIAMI- A Noel, Missouri man charged with five criminal counts in Ottawa County District Court including rape, and second-degree lewd acts received a reduced sentence for his crimes in a plea agreement. According to Assistant District Attorney, Rogers Hughes, the deal was struck in part to spare the child victim and her family the rigors of a public trial.
Chad Laverne Laughlin, 48, received sentencing in early September in connection with inappropriate and illegal acts on June 24, at the Miami Public Library with a 14-year-old girl.
Laughlin was sentenced from 10 to 20 years for each count in the Department of Corrections, with all but five years of each sentence suspended and to run concurrently for a total of 15 years followed by supervised probation, according to the Ottawa County District Attorney's Office.
Laughlin will receive credit for time served in the Ottawa County Jail and was also ordered to pay $7,000 in fines and $3,500 to the VCA fines.
