Ottawa County Senior Companion Program volunteer David Ritchey has been named the August “Champion of Compassion.”
MIAMI – Four year Ottawa County Senior Companion Program volunteer David Ritchey has been named the August “Champion of Compassion.” In keeping with his Christian values, Ritchey said he believes in helping those that can’t help in return.
Josh Katt of Good Shepherd Hospice, a long-standing sponsor of the SCP, presented Ritchey with a gift card in honor of the recognition.
"I like to keep busy, and this is a great way to do that. I like visiting with my clients, and the friendships that develop are outstanding," said Ritchey.
Both Ritchey and his wife Carolyn are SCP volunteers and are especially proud of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with them and attending their activities.
The Ottawa SCP suffers from lack of male volunteers. The waiting list of clients includes men who need a visitor or to assist a caregiver needing a break. For more information on how you can help, please call the Ottawa County Health Department at 918-540-2481.
The SCP is a United Way Agency.
