Billy “Joe” McAffrey, 63, of Warner, Okla. entered Heaven’s Gates on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. He was born August 17, 1954 to Bill and Martha “Margie” (Schultz) McAffrey in Miami, Okla. Joe graduated from Welch High School and then attended college at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Oklahoma State University.
Joe married the love of his life, Dee Ann Ross, on June 12, 1976 at Jay First Baptist Church in Jay, Okla. They shared 41 years of a happy life and marriage together.
He worked for oil pipelines as a safety and welding inspector for many years. Joe grew up ranching and enjoyed being around cattle and horses. He was a member of Warner First Baptist Church. God, family and friends were very important to him. Joe loved watching his grandkids play sports more than anything. He will always be remembered as a loving spouse, amazing daddy and a wonderful papa.
Joe was preceded in death by his brother, David McAffrey; his sister, Gail McAffrey; father-in-law, J.S. Ross; and mother-in-law, Peggy Ross.
He is survived by his wife Dee Ann (Ross) McAffrey of the home; daughters, Jodee Thompson and her husband Chris of Warner, Okla., Morgan Beyerl and her husband Chris of Tulsa, Okla.; grandsons, Adam Thompson and Colt Thompson of Warner, Okla.; granddaughter, Kate Beyerl of Tulsa, Okla.; his parents, Bill and Margie McAffrey of Welch, Okla.; sister, Terry Snodderly and husband Jim of Bluejacket, Okla.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Phil and Sandy Ross of Stillwater, Okla. and Toby and Cindy Hoover of Opelika, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe’s family will receive friends and family 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 25, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers Joe’s family has requested donations be made to Warner Public Schools 1012 5th Avenue, Warner, OK 74469 to any sport or activity of choice in Joe’s honor.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be 1 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Warner First Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Dunn and Rev. Blaine Ross officiating. Interment will follow at Warner Memorial Cemetery with Chris Thompson, Adam Thompson, Colt Thompson, Chris Beyerl, Kate Beyerl, Jerry Stretch, Morris Fowler and Rick Dixon serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon McAffrey, Chad McAffrey, Jack Webster, Boe Mullins, Jim Thompson and Jim Snodderly.
