1. Friday sees the opening of the family friendly “The Nut Job 2,” following the events of the first film, as Surly and his friends must stop Oakton City’s mayor from destroying their home to make way for a dysfunctional amusement park; Brie Larson stars in the PG-13 film “The Glass Castle” based on the bestselling book about a young girl comes of age in a dysfunctional family of nonconformist nomads with a mother who’s an eccentric artist and an alcoholic father; and “Single White Female” gets a millennial update in “Ingrid Goes West” starring Aubrey Plaza as an unhinged social media stalker.

2. The All Nations UMC Fellowship hall at 201 S. Maple in Commerce will be the place to enjoy a free hot breakfast and fellowship Saturday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The come-and-go meet-and-greet breakfast will include scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage and bacon, juice and milk. Plus the chance at a $25 Walmart gift card!

3. Rounding out National Farmers Market week is "I Heart My Famers Market Day" at the Fairland Farmers Market which is celebrating with some great music, awesome food, and fun contests and prizes. Come out and enjoy hot food samples made from vendor products and enjoy the sounds of musician Steve Potter. Located in front of "The Landing” at 502 W. Conner Ave. in Fairland, the market is open 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

4. The Miami Municipal Pool has closed for its regular summer season, but Sunday, Aug. 13 is all about giving your pup a chance to enjoy the cool pool waters. The City of Miami is hosting its Doggy Dip from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the main pool at Riverview Park, 110 8th Ave. SE in Miami. Admission is $5 dollars, and you must bring proof of your pet's rabies vaccination. Leashes and collars required.

5. Did you know that eight out of 44 U.S. presidents are/were lefties? International Left Handers Day is Sunday, so if there are any lefties out there, today is your day to shine!
