Carl Joe Adams of Okmulgee, Okla. passed from this life on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Hillcrest Heart Institute in Tulsa, Okla. He was 77.
Carl was born September 26, 1939 to Charles and Opal Leon (Harris) Adams in Okfuskee, Okla. He graduated from Okmulgee High School and received his degree in drafting and architectural design from Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee. Carl married Patsie Shaw October 13, 1962. She preceded him in death on May 22, 2010.
Carl worked as a draftsman… for Continental Oil Company in Ponca City, Okla. for several years before moving to Wichita, Kan. where he began his career as a musician, playing guitar and singing. He played for many years at the Mint Club in Wichita and had a television show "Carl Adams and the Longbranch Boys" on channel 12 in Wichita, where he gave fiddle player Shoji Tabuchi one of his first jobs in the United States. In 1978 Carl opened "The Country Drumstick and "Adams' Rib" restaurants in Branson, MO. In 1986 he opened "Adams' Rib Basket" restaurant in Morris, Okla. Carl was inducted into the Gospel Music Barn Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Western Swing Music Hall of Fame in 2006. He currently was working as a land appraiser for the Okmulgee County Clerk and Okmulgee County Sheriff's Department.
Carl is survived by his daughter Kari and husband Paul Thomas of Miami, Okla., his son Joe and wife Jenny Adams of Lantana, Texas, his sister Charlene Lampkins of Okmulgee, Okla., eight grandchildren, Austin Brown, Tyler Brown, Isaac Adams, Aaron Adams, Max Adams, Zach Adams, Annamaria Thomas and Dalton Young, his nephew, Charles Wayne Adams of Tulsa, Okla. and his niece, Paula Miller and her husband James of Beggs, Okla.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday July 25, 2017 at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, Okla. with Pastor Leon Weece officiating. Pallbearers will be Deloy Vaughn, Brenda Vaughn Osterman, Mike Glasman, Mark Riley, Jimmy Rogers and Terry Heatherly. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Berry, Doug Roland, Henry Johns, Gene Hughey and Okmulgee County Sheriff's Department. Entombment will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday, July 24, 2017 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee, Okla. Services have been placed in the care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, Okla.
