Copan History

“My Aunt Dolly” by Shannon Sousa

It must have been in the early 1900s when a tornado came from the west. There was my great-grandpa Littleton and my great-grandma Littleton and Dolly and Sonny. Dolly was two year old and Sonny was six months old.

They were living in a room when it started. It swept them into the air. My great-grandparents held the children and then locked arms. When they were up in the air, the tornado sucked them out of the house. They landed on one of the hay stacks. The house was blown away. Everything they had was gone.

In the backyard there was one old hen and seven baby chicks. They had kept them in a chicken coop, that had a brick on top to keep it down. All that was left was that one old hen and her seven chicks.

My grandparents went to a friend’s home and stayed a few days. The people from Copan came and helped them build back their house. It just shows how wonderful the people in Copan can be… and they still are.
