Ottawa County Election Board announces dates for upcoming elections.
MIAMI – The Ottawa County Election Board has announced the dates associated with two upcoming elections - the School Board Election in February and the Municipal Election in April.
School Board Election
The Annual School Board Election will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017. There is a race for Seat 2 at Quapaw School District I-14 which has candidates: Paula Suman and Wayne Morey; and also a race for Seat 2 at Northeast Technology Center which has candidates: Billy F. Hendrickson and Sherman Weaver.
The Ottawa County Election Board reminds voters that anyone wanting to cast their vote early may do so by voting In-Person Absentee on Thursday, Feb. 9 or Friday, Feb. 10 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day. Early voting will be conducted in the Community Room of the County Courthouse Annex building located at 123 East Central, Miami, Oklahoma.
Anyone needing to vote by mail absentee must request an application to do so and have it returned to the Election Board office by Wednesday, Feb. 8. No ballots can be mailed after this date. Voters can request an application be mailed to them or they can come in and fill one out in the office. They can also write out an absentee ballot request and mail or fax it to the Election Board Office. The request needs to include their name, address, date of birth, and where the ballot should be mailed. Said request must also include the person's signature.
Candidates for Municipal Offices
Candidates for municipal offices in Ottawa County municipalities may file Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 6. The filing period ends at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The contest and withdrawal period is Thursday, Feb. 9 beginning at 8 a.m. and will end at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10.
Verna Ferris, Secretary of the Ottawa County Election Board, said the municipal offices will be filled in the nonpartisan election scheduled for April 4, 2017.
