FAIRLAND — With the scoop of the shovel, Casey Bowers saw his dreams become a reality.
On Wednesday, Nov. 30, Bowers, along with other officials from Grand Savings Bank, officially broke ground on the bank's newest facility, in Fairland.
For Bowers, the market president for the Fairland branch, bringing a bank the small Ottawa county town, was the realization a goal he's had since 2008.
"To be able to bring a bank to my hometown was a dream come true," the 1999 graduate of Fairland High School said. "It was something I knew would happen, but I wasn't sure when."
Bowers said he first pitched the idea to the Grand Savings board of directors in 2009. Four years ago bank officials placed an ATM at the location, in order to test the market.
He said customer support, and a need for the branch, allowed Fairland to become Grand Savings Bank 10th location.
"We have banks all up and down the Arkansas/Oklahoma border," Bowers said. "We'll always be a community bank."
Bowers was joined at the celebration with his wife, Kendra, and their two sons, Caine and Caiden, both students within the Fairland School District.
Bowers said he hoped the day would remain a memory in his children's lives.
"I hope they remember that when you set a goal, it might take awhile, but you can eventually achieve it," Bowers said, adding that the community and the bank's existing customers throughout Ottawa and northern Delaware counties, helped make the location become a reality.
About the branch
The Fairland location, which is expected to open in April 2017, will have six to seven employees. Three of the employees will transfer from the Grove branch.
The 2,450 square-foot facility, with two drive-thru lanes, will be located at 604 West Conner Avenue, along Highway 60, near the intersection of Highway 60 and 125.
Guy Cable, Grand Savings Bank CEO, said he's excited to see the new branch develop.
"This is really not about the bank building, but the people in the bank," Cable said. "Casey is such an amazing leader in our organization.
"This has been his dream, and to be here [today] it worked out perfectly."
Cable said the bank has grown to 10 locations, because the right people were in place for the right branches.
He expects growth to continue, but at a slower pace, as banking officials strive to maintain the overall philosophy of remaining a local, hometown bank.
